Things to know

Recycling: Recycling may be brought to the town shed (Kingdome) on Peddlers Bridge Rd from 9-12 AM, on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month, and the 1st Wednesday of the month from 5-7 PM. A $3 donation is suggested for recycling.

Trash disposal: Lyle Webb collects bagged trash at the town shed on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month for $3-$4 per bag depending on weight. Very heavy bags will be charged more. He may also be hired to pick up bagged trash at driveways weekly on Friday. Other area haulers may also be available. Burning trash is illegal.

Dogs: must be under owner control at all times; must be licensed, annual deadline April 1, contact the town clerk. Chris Smith (802-388-0337) and Bill Hunsinger (802-232-2698) are the animal control officers. Contact them about lost, found, or nuisance animals.

Permits: are required for burning if there is no snow cover (contact the fire warden 388-3629, 388-4506); and for construction, change of use, subdivision, etc. (contact zoning@riptonvt.org).

Roads: Tim Hanson (388-2546) is the road commissioner. Speak to him or selectboard members Laurie Cox (388-7820) or Giles Hoyler about road issues. 

Schools: Ripton Elementary School, public K- 5; North Branch School, private grades 7-9.Students in grades 6-12 attend the ACSD schools in Middlebury.
